As for cameras...
Panasonic Lumix G95
(Mirrorless, Micro Four Thirds, 2019)
I used the money from my post-high school summer internship to buy this camera. It arrived during the first 2 weeks of college (my third attempt to buy after the other 2 places I tried to buy from cancelled/sent broken items), and it was attached to me at all times.
I bought a few lenses with it (25mm f/1.7, 12-60mm, 40-150mm) but I found myself using a cheap TTArtisans 25mm f/2 lens more than any of the others. It was compact enough that I could carry it to classes with me and cheap enough where I didn't have to worry about breaking anything.
I haven't had an issue with this camera (besides subpar low light effects, a sin committed by all M43 cameras), and my pictures have been used everywhere from concert posts to Hinge profiles (shockingly not mine). I even recorded a few videos for a friend's band. Pretty cool!
Olympus E-300 (DSLR, CCD Four Thirds, 2004)
In high school, this camera was donated to me by a family friend. It has a tiny screen, no live view, and one of the loudest mirror slaps I've ever heard. But it had charm.
Using it with an adapted Minolta lens for my high school yearbook was a challenge, but it was also somewhat fun. You could tell which pictures were mine cuz the sensor had no concept of white balance (and I'm pretty sure it was failing). Ah well.
Minolta XG-1 (SLR, Film, ~1982)
I got into film after hearing about it from now-Grand Marshal Jordan Krishnayah in high school. I bought this camera from ShopGoodwill because it was cheap and didn't look terrible. The first times I used it were during the 2024 NY Transit Museum Bus Festival (pictures of which are still my lockscreen wallpapers to this day) and my trip to RPI at the start of my senior year.
I wish film wasn't so expensive, cuz I'd love to shoot it more often. Someday...
